Join us for the second Social Justice Educators Community Gathering, hosted by the Shanti Alliance, the Davis Democracy Initiative at Punahou School, and the Hanahauʻoli School Professional Development Center (PDC). In this post-election Listening Circle, we will create a supportive space for deep listening, empathy-building, and community strengthening.
Inspired by the practices of the International Institute for Restorative Practices, this Listening Circle is a chance to reflect on the 2024 Presidential Election's impact and explore how restorative justice practices can foster healing, equity, and connection in our schools. Due to the nature of a listening circle, we will carefully select a limited group of participants from diverse backgrounds to ensure a meaningful and inclusive experience.
About the Hawai‘i Social Justice Educators Community Gatherings:
This quarterly series focuses on social justice education in Hawai‘i and welcomes educators who are:
Supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, or belonging initiatives in schools.
Serving on committees addressing DEIB issues.
Teaching social justice-related content.
Engaged in advocacy or activism around social justice in education.
Interested in learning from others' experiences and contributing to this important work.
These gatherings provide a space for facilitated discussions about the successes and challenges of advancing social justice in Hawai‘i’s school communities. A part of the Social Justice Education in Hawai‘i Project by Hanahauʻoli School and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Education, these informal gatherings are made possible through the generosity of Jana and Howard Wolff.
